Demographics & Geography
Pugwash is home to approximately 800 full-time residents, a number that grows seasonally due to tourism and summer residents. The village lies in Cumberland County, at the mouth of the Pugwash River, surrounded by rolling farmland, coastal ecosystems, and forests.
Key features include:
- A protected harbour
- Beaches and walking trails
- A growing downtown with artisan shops and cafés
- Active recreation spaces like Eaton Park and tennis courts
The community’s size allows for an approachable, village-style life—where neighbours know each other, and visitors are always welcomed.
Village Logo and Symbolism
The official Village of Pugwash logo features a white dove, universally recognized as a symbol of peace. The dove reflects Pugwash’s historical contribution to international dialogue and disarmament, as well as the enduring values of cooperation and goodwill among residents.
Often depicted in flight, the dove also speaks to the village’s future-facing aspirations, while the soft blue tones of the logo echo the harbour and surrounding waters that define the village’s geography.
