The Village of Pugwash is committed to fostering sustainable, thoughtful growth that enhances the quality of life for residents and supports a vibrant, welcoming community. Our Development & Planning efforts aim to balance progress with preservation, ensuring that development aligns with the village’s character, environmental values, and long-term vision.

What We Do

  • Community Planning
    Working in coordination with the Municipality of Cumberland, we help shape land use and development policies, zoning regulations, and long-range plans that guide the future growth of our community.
  • Development Applications & Approvals
    We assist with development proposals, land use inquiries, and community input on planning decisions. All zoning, building, and subdivision applications are managed through the Cumberland County Planning Department.
  • Village Beautification and Public Spaces
    Our planning efforts include streetscaping, green space enhancements, and maintaining the welcoming appearance of public areas, including parks, trails, and waterfront zones.
  • Heritage and Environmental Stewardship
    We work to protect and promote Pugwash’s unique architectural heritage and natural assets, integrating conservation principles into local planning.

How to Get Involved

Residents, business owners, and developers are encouraged to take an active role in the planning process. Public input is often sought during community consultations and planning updates.
